Hi, I'm Daniel, and these are some of my thoughts on Web-software development. The purpose of this blog is to channel my desire to work in a more environmentally-responsible way: I will use it to investigate my own practices and to think about ways we can do better for our world.
I want to be a more responsible developer—a more responsible person in general. But I'm no expert in these matters, so who am I to talk about this stuff? Well, I have a wish and I'm going to try. And that's all we need, I think.
Minification is a technique we can use to reduce the size of data stored on disk or sent over the network. What you mightn't know is it's actually possible to easily, and safely, minify HTML using only vanilla PHP.
To my mind, "minimal" means "only what's needed" or "enough". "Enough" is not an objective quantity, though, so how can the feature-set of a minimal blogging platform be determined? I devised three basic guiding principles to keep in mind.
Apparently the trend is still to keep adding more, but I think we're going to have to move in the opposite direction if we want a brighter future.
Miniblog is a minimal open-source blogging platform written in PHP. Moreover, it will serve as a test-bed in learning to be more environmentally-responsible in my work.
